“A Triumph against the Elements!”
3rd December 2010, Crowne Plaza, Nottingham
SNOW – what snow? Nottingam branch triumphed against the elements to hold its annual Christmas Luncheon on the traditional first Friday in December at the magnificent Crowne Plazza Hotel.
It was touch and go – Nottinghamshire was blanketed by snow and ice – but 350 of our members and guests showed their determination and successfully navigated the highway to attend what has been described as the event of the year!
Music delivered by “Cachet”, and the excellent lady saxophonist, kept us entertained in the bar, and this year we had the addition of well known caricature artist George Williams, fresh from his appearance on The One Show, giving many of our braver guests the opportunity to have a memento of their day! Our Speaker was Welsh comedian and entertainer Mr Rod Woodward, who has appeared with and supported Patrick McGuiness and Russell Brand and won the 2008 BBC comedy competition “Funny Business”. An act not to be missed! All of this, and the services of the professional Master of Ceremonies Mr Geoffrey Harris, who ably orchestrated the day.
And, not to forget the business of the day – raising funds for the benevolent fund – once again we must extend our grateful thanks to a number of local companies who donated prizes for auction, and then entered into the spirit of the day by buying the famous whisky draw tickets and joined the frantic bidding war that followed! They did not let us down, and we can announce that funds raised throughout the year have allowed the Nottingham Branch to donate the sum of £23,000 to the fund!
On behalf of the committee we would like to extend our grateful thanks to each and every one of you that has donated your time and money to make the event the success it proved to be! And to everyone that couldn’t, or didn’t make it, come and join us in 2011 and see what everyone has been talking about and what you have been missing!!!
